Pursuant to the PA Public School Code, Pennsylvania public school districts are required to file an annual financial report (AFR) with the PA Department of Education.  AFRs are due in October following the end of the fiscal year.  Governor Mifflin’s reports for each completed year are listed under PDE annual financial reports.

The Governor Mifflin School District is audited annually after the close of the fiscal year.  Our local audits are performed by Herbein & Company, Inc.  The report and results of each year are listed under financial & compliance reports.

In addition to any bids located on this site, the district also participates in the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) joint purchasing program.  Vendors who are interested in the BCIU joint purchasing bids should contact the BCIU by phone at 610-987-8596 or by email at ericle@berksiu.org.

Governor Mifflin School District operates on a fiscal year, July 1 through June 30.  The School Board of Directors must approve an annual budget by June 30 of each year. In April, the District hosts a community event in which the upcoming budget is discussed prior to the school board vote.

A charter school is an independently operated public school.  Charter schools do not charge students tuition – they receive the majority of funding from their students' resident school districts.  The amount a charter school receives is based upon a statutory funding formula, which requires tuition rates for both nonspecial and special education students.  Listed below are Governor Mifflin School Districts calculated charter school tuition rates.  This is the rate the District pays for each of our resident students attending a cyber charter school program.

Real Estate Tax Millage Rate for 2023-24 is 30.10 mills.

Real estate tax is a tax based on the assessed value of a parcel.  All assessed values are assigned by the Berks County Assessment Office.  A tax rate, or millage rate, is approved each year by the School Board of Directors to be levied against the assessed value of each property.  Individual taxpayers annually receive a tax bill based on the value of their property multiplied by the millage rate. One mil is equal to $1 of tax for every $1,000 of assessed property value.  

The per capita tax is a flat rate local tax paid by all District adult residents (18 years of age and over).  Mortgage companies do not pay per capita taxes, as they are related to residency and not homeownership or other criteria.

Real Estate & Per Capita tax bills are mailed on or around July 1st. Failure to receive your tax bill does not relieve your obligation of payment. If you do not receive a tax bill, contact your local tax collector or our office:

Please refer to your tax bill for complete information regarding due dates, payment options and instructions for payment by mail or with the tax collector.

To receive school property tax relief for tax years beginning July 1, an application for homestead or farmstead exclusions must be filed by the preceding March 1.  Applications are mailed in December to any property owner that does not currently have an approved application on file.  If you did not receive an application and your property has not already been approved, you can stop in at the Education Center, 10 S. Waverly St., Shillington, to get a form or call the office at (610) 775-1461 X 7100 and request an application be mailed.  Any questions regarding whether your property has been approved can be addressed by the Berks County Homestead Office at (610) 478-6262.
